21 Great Poems

  1. Sabrina - 6th grade

I WISH TO SEE THE RAIN FOREST

I wish to see the rain forest and see the leopard run.
And listen to the monkeys chattering above.
I wish to see the toucan soar above my head
And see the tiny insects running far ahead.
I really wish to see the rain forest, very, very much.
Maybe I will get to… in my dreams – I’ll bet!

  2. Arie - 2nd Grade

    SKUNKS

    If you dare
    To smell their hair

You will smell an awful smell
And then you won’t feel very well.

  3. arline

Roses are red and violet are blue
My mom is pretty – so how about you?

  4. Emma, 1st Grade

I heard a guy named Mr. Mike
    was coming to our school.
I THINK I’LL LIKE MR. MIKE
    I wonder when I meet him…
    Will he be funny?
    Will he be hip?
    Will he be cool?
I THINK I’LL LIKE MR. MIKE
I like to draw, I like to write
One day I want to be like Mr. Mike.
I THINK I’LL LIKE MR. MIKE
    I’ll write some stories –
a few poems and a riddle or two.
I’ll put them in a book
    and send them to you.
I THINK I’LL LIKE MR. MIKE
On the inside cover you will see
a special little note from me:
One day you came to my school
and just like I thought – you were really cool!
    I DO LIKE MR. MIKE

  5. Mayall Street School Room 32

    Mr. Mike was here!
    Mr. Mike was here!
To stand up tall and read his books!

    Mr. Mike was here!
    Mr. Mike was here!
Sharing his poems with magnificent hooks!

    Mr. Mike was here!
    Mr. Mike was here!
Reciting those poems in a voice strong and loud!

    Mr. Mike was here!
    Mr. Mike was here!
While children sat as one wonderful crowd!

  6. Ms. Ryan's Class, Norco School

    Welcome, welcome Mr. Mike!
Please read us poetry that we like.
You are as flawless as a kite.
Your books and poems are funny, alright!
Thanks for coming to Norco El.
We really think you’re great and swell.
Can you believe you are at our school?
Let’s go jump in the chocolate pool!
Or maybe play in Lemon Drop Rain.
Boy, that would be really insane!
We’re very glad you came today.
We really wish that you could stay.
We enjoy our elephant as our New Pet.
You are the bestest poet yet!
We like your style in every way.
Let’s hear it for you… Hip, Hip, Hooray!!!

  7. Briana, 6th Grade

    FLOWERS
    Fragrant blossoms of
    Lovely colors,
Orange, red, yellow, purple and blue,
    Waving in the breeze;
    Emerald leaves sparkling with
    Raindrops like diamonds.
    Stretching themselves towards the sun.

  8. Aesha, 6th Grade

    MR. MIKE IS COMING!

    Mr. Mike is coming!
    Get ready to have fun.
The whole school is awaiting him –
    Each and every one!

What kind of poems has he written?
    I’m sure they’re very good.
I wonder if I could write one.
    Maybe I should.

    I am really excited!
    Just waiting for Friday!
    I wonder what will happen?
All I can say is, Yay!

THE SUN IS MADE OF CHEESE
    Wouldn’t it be funny
If the sun was made of cheese.
You hold up a plate of tortilla chips
And you’d have nachos in a breeze.

    DUCKS
    Ducks are lucky,
    Don’t you think?
When they want to take a drink
    All they do is
    Duck their bill.
It doesn’t matter if they spill.

Do you like playing with little cats?

  15. Joshua, 5th Grade

    THANKS
Thank you, Mr. Mike for writing the stories
That makes kids go all hunky-dories
As the seasons change from Fall to Winter,
As the elections show a winner,
As kids get on their bike,
Let us all say, “Thank you, Mr. Mike.”

  16. Kayli, 3rd Grade

A happy smile upon your face
