Hello Schools!

I’m excited that you’re interested in having me visit your school!
Are your students ready to write some poems?! Are they ready to come up with a cool idea, write it down, then rewrite,,, rewrite,,, rewrite and make it great!?
If so, then I wanna meet ‘em!!!

I visit lots of schools every year and have been doing so for over 10 years!!!
I’m looking for the most energetic and enthusiastic schools and PTA/Os to help me with the introduction of my newest book of poetry and drawings ‘Over the Top’. Assemblies are extremely fun and informative and give students the opportunity to meet and listen to a ‘real’ author and illustrator read and talk about their work and even get a book signed! That’s a big deal!

Of course, during my presentations, I’ll also be reading poetry from ‘Swimming in Chocolate‘ and ‘Lemon Drop Rain‘ as well as my short story ‘New Pet‘.  I might even test out some new ’stuff’ I’m working on – just to see how you like it!

For many students, this is the first time they’ve ever met an author and taken part in an organized, school-wide writing exercise. It’s lots of fun and educational!  I never met an author when I was kid! Nobody ever came to my school to tell me that the pencil in my hand could lead to a career! It never occurred to me that every book, cartoon, movie, TV show, magazine, cereal box and even what the President says… has a writer behind it – that means just about everything we watch and listen to started as an idea in a writer’s mind first!
