    You are a soopr star.

  4. Linda Williams, Pershing School

I have had many authors visit both of my schools over the years and your visit is one of the most memorable. You are completely engaging with the students and have gotten them jazzed about poetry. One student told me she didn’t want the day to end!

  5. Claudio, 3rd Grade

Today was a very exciting day! Thank you for coming to our school!

  6. Cheryl Cook, Jefferson School

I want to thank you for the excellent visit! Our county has a Poetry and Prose On Stage event each year. Many of our students prepared a recitation of one of Mr. Mike’s poems. Your visit was one of those bright spots that will be remembered when our students are adults, sending their children to Jefferson School.

  7. Tak, 5th grade

I might also start to write poems when I grow up!

  8. Mrs. Price, Mother

My son got your books and we have been reading them ever since he got them. He has been encouraged to read even more on his own since getting the books and I am surprised at some of the words he knows. I think by meeting you and then getting the books it has more meaning.

  9. Trent, 4th Grade

Thank you, Mr. Mike for coming to my school! I hope you will come back tomorrow and other days too. Let me know if you are coming back and I will save a cookie for you because I remember you said you like cookies.

  10. Emilio, 7th Grade

  29. Sharon Aubrey, PTA, VP of Programs

Thank you so much for such a great visit to our school. We have been hearing wonderful feedback. I had a mom of a first grader tell me, that since your visit, her son reads your book and carries it around with him — she could never get him interested in reading before!

  30. Alexandra Rangel, Peralta Elementary School

You haven’t even left our school yet, but I just wanted to make sure there was a GREAT BIG THANKS waiting for you! Our students and staff had a wonderful time at today’s assemblies. We do appreciate all the time, effort and energy you put in to what you do. We also thank you for sharing your love of writing with us.

Teaching students to read and write is one of the most difficult things we face as teachers. Because not only do we want to teach the basic skills, we want to foster a foundation of finding enjoyment in the process.

Having a real children’s author right here on our campus, was truly a treat! You are the perfect example of doing something special with one’s written work! Thanks again for taking time out of your busy life to visit us!

  31. Julie Ferrara, Librarian, Hemet Elementary School

Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to come and visit our school. Many of the students here at Hemet Elementary have never met an author before. Having a children’s author at our school was a real treat for everyone! You have been a big inspiration to our students. They love reading your books!

  32. Annie at Rocky Hill Elementary Exeter, California

Thank you for coming to my school. I had lots of fun.
My favorite poem that you read was… well, I don’t have a favorite – they were all marvelous!

  33. Sharon Atkinson Terrace Elementary Delano, California

I wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed your assembly time with us. Your poetry books are constantly being checked out.
Your assembly made a great impression on the students to write poetry. I submitted 24 poems to the National Schools Project Publishing and 17 of our students were contacted by this company for permission to publish their poems!
Thank you for inspiring our students to write poetry!
