Fees & Travel

The fee for Mr. Mike’s visit, which includes up to 3 assemblies for the entire school, book signing,
‘Lunch with Mr. Mike’ and the ‘Mr. Mike Poetry Challenge’ is $1,800.  That includes all travel and accommodations.  There are no other fees, minimums, etc.

bbbsitedinosaurAll travel and accommodations are arranged by Beetle Bug Books.

Kind offers of hospitality are
graciously declined.  Thanks!

Mr. Mike visits a limited number of Arizona, California and Nevada public schools FREE of charge, including all travel and accommodations – as long as all students from all grades and classes attend.  Proceeds from book sales are accepted in lieu of the standard fee. There is no minimum # of book sales. Book sales do not have to meet or exceed a specific amount (however they should and usually do cover the cost of transportation and overnight costs, but if they don’t – that doesn’t mean you’re on the hook for anything!)  There are no hidden fees, secret charges or any like that.  FREE means FREE! This arrangement has worked quite well for over 10 years and has enabled many schools to have a visit by Mr. Mike that they might not otherwise be able to afford.
Keep an eye out for available dates which are usually released around the end of August.

For public schools that would rather have Mr. Mike visit for a select group of students (anything less than the whole school, all grades and all classes) then a $1,800. fee will apply. For example, we sometimes get requests for visits for just the 3rd & 4th grades or select classes at schools that don’t have an MPR or room large enough to do assemblies (that’s such a drag!), in these cases, the school paid a fee.

If your school is in an area that would normally require several schools to be lined up as part of a multi-school book tour – and you’re not interested in that – then the $1,800 fee will apply.

FUNDING MR. MIKE’S VISIT:
Some districts provide funding for author visits, while many schools turn to their PTA/O or to Title I funds.  There are lots of other ways to fund an author visit!  Here are some ideas to help you make an author visit a reality for your school.

* Adopt-a-School Sponsors
* Local Business Sponsorship
